“We have been gifted with 2 ears and 1 mouth – that surely shows us the ratio of talking and listening we have to do!” This has been a common refrain for those complaining about the ‘lost’ art of communication. Good communication skills is important when it comes to adulting.
Particularly in this century where we feel hard-pressed for time and ever so tempted to ask people to get to the point, it’s no wonder listening becomes harder and communication breakdowns more frequent. Despite the world being more connected, increasingly people feel more isolated and alone. We speak, but are not heard; and we listen but do not understand. Poor communication will often result in misunderstanding, frustration, anxiety or even broken relationships.
