There are so many lessons that I learn as a business owner.Daily, I am challenged to learn and constantly apply myself in different areas.
It’s been a crazy second quarter of the year as we took part in the City of Canning’s business program, networking with other business owners and being facilitated in all areas of business. The time commitment was intensive, but the sessions fruitful. We ended up using the frameworks taught to shape our discussion around our Fundamental Cents’s remote learning pack! More to be revealed about that later in the year!
As part of the program, we were all required to come up with a pitch. Due to the time crunch, we just gave it our best shot. To our surprise, we won! Here’s the pitch in case you haven’t seen it yet!
From this experience, I have learnt another 3 important life lessons. For earlier lessons learnt as a business owner, check out this article instead.
1) Strive to Improve, not Perfect
While this is not our first time pitching, it was our first time doing a virtual pitch. As usual, I never feel adequately prepared nor confident but I have again learnt that the key is putting together something that I am happy to put my name to, and submit that for feedback.
With feedback, then comes the multiple iterations to improve and make better. Perfect is an ideal that we won’t strive to achieve. And SURPRISE!- even if it’s imperfect, it can still deliver!
2) Support is Valuable
I was privileged to have the support of my fellow business owners who watched my pitch and gave feedback. Sharing the virtual event online also got my mentors and friends from all over the world (Singapore, Philippines etc) to tune in and listen to our pitch. That show of support meant so much to me in encouraging me to continue and persevere.
3) Celebrating wins are important!
Celebrating wins are important as they keep us going! I used to be uncomfortable with this as it felt like blowing my own horn. My mentor put it well though – no one can be more excited than us about our business so yay for us and may the good things keep coming!
