Becoming Financially Independent from Parents
2020 is shaping up to be a year that shows the power of financial independence. As teenagers, we crave independence. This means we also need to become financially independent from our parents. When we do not depend solely on others for livelihood, we have more control in our lives. This gives us a greater say in how we respond to our environment.
COVID-19 has forced countries into isolation with limited travel. There is plenty of uncertainty around the future. No one knows when a vaccine will be found. Restrictions eased today can be implemented tomorrow. It’s been plenty of living in the moment. Indeed, it’s challenging times to future-proof.
Particularly for our teenagers, it is more challenging to become financially independent from parents. If part-time employment is going to be scarce, can you afford to say no to an allowance? What happens if your parents lose their income and require you to cut back on your spending?
Money management for our teenagers are thus increasingly becoming an important life skill to have.
